If Christians are going to change the world, they need to follow the teachings of Jesus.

Jesus' main message was not salvation, it was not eternal life, it was not heaven. Jesus' main message was the Kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God is spread through the rule of Christ in the lives of his body, and then his body moving and living that out in the world.

Amillenialism and Postmillenialism believe in this. The urge is for spreading God's kingdom on earth, "Your Kingdom come." Premillenialism (and most notably, Dispensationalism) teaches Christians that the world is going to all Hell anyway, and to sit back and don't bother changing anything, 'cause Jesus is comin' back any second and it's all over.

We are certainly to live as if Jesus could come at any moment, but we are also to be salt and light, and hold these two truths in tandem. This is one of my biggest axes I grind against Dispensationalism. It is a huge view in the Church, but it is not an "alternative" view, where we can agree to disagree. It blatantly goes against the teachings of Christ and tells people *NOT* to go out and influence the world, but rather to withdraw and close the light up under the bushel.

The earth will see God's rule when Christians start living like Jesus.

I think that the fact that non-Christians hold Christians up to a very high standard is a very important thing to take note of. Christians in this day and age are becoming more and more like the culture and world that they are in, yet we are not "of." Jesus had a radical message, and a radical life. Christians today appear to be a mere shadow of what Jesus expects the Church, his Bride, to be.

This is why I like some elements of the new wave of church, postmodern approaches, and *SOME* elements of the emerging church movement. Church is real. People are real. Worship is real.

There is the danger in going down this rabbit hole too far, people will take off the masks and everything won't be pretty. But isn't that how it's supposed to be? Maybe I'm just a postmodern, "liberal" ;-).

Mostly true, but let's be sure we're defining evangelism correctly. When some people use the word, they mean 'street preaching'. That's not Re:Hope's style (nor Glasgow's). Maybe there could be an argument for it.

What we should be doing is 1)living holy lives 2)being ready to respond to people's questions 3)inviting to community events 4)looking for opportunities to ask intentional questions about what our friends believe.

Yes, we could improve in those areas. We could also improve in our mission activities.
